Marley FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Welcome to the Marley FAQ section. Here you will find answers, explanations and information on frequently asked questions.
First select a topic for which you require further information:

Gutter systems

Corners are required for a polygonal garden pavilion.

In addition to the 90° corners, Marley also has 135° corners in RG 100/125 in its range. These can be used for an 8-cornered gazebo. If other angles are required, these can be ordered from your local DIY store using the order form for special corners.

Does Marley offer external or internal corners with different degrees for e.g. bay windows, dormers or octagonal garden sheds?

Special corners with different degrees (< 90°) are available for all Marley gutters. The angle of the roof pitch can also be taken into account.

Can I make special corners myself by mitering the gutter and gluing it?

This will not hold and the bonding will break after a short time. That's why we weld the special corners.

Can I unbond a box or duplex gutter?

No, the bonding is a "cold weld" and can no longer be removed. It can only be separated mechanically by sawing it off.

What is the cleaner used for when bonding the Duplex and the box gutter?

The cleaner is not used to remove dirt, it is intended to make the surfaces to be bonded free of grease. The gutter adhesive can then penetrate the plastic better and achieve optimum bonding (cold welding) of the gutter and the connecting shell.

Up to what minimum temperature can or may the PVC special adhesive be used?

Do not use below +5°C.

Does the semi-circular gutter have to be glued?

The semi-circular gutter is a pure plug-in system and must not be glued. If it were glued, there would be no controlled linear expansion and therefore no deformation or similar.

Is there a reduction for gutter downpipes?

No, the size of the downpipes, like the size of the gutter, depends on the roof area, so it is not necessary to reduce or extend a downpipe.

Can Marley gutters be painted?

Yes, the gutters can be painted with Dulux Seidencolor or Glanzcolor, for example. Priming is necessary beforehand. The recommendations of the paint manufacturer must be followed. Save yourself this time-consuming work and buy Marley guttering in special colors.

A connector for the metal gutter has too much play or cannot be closed. What can you do?

The z-shaped bracket can be bent.

Smart & Green irrigation technology

If the Hunter X-Core irrigation computer malfunctions, you will find possible causes and solutions here.

All possible malfunctions, causes and solutions can be found here.

Gear-driven sprinklers and spray sprinklers: What do the square and triangle mean when indicating precipitation?

The symbols are called square and triangle. They describe the precipitation rate in mm/h when the sprinklers are arranged as a square or triangle, with a sprinkler placed in each corner. The classic square pattern is relevant for domestic gardens, while the triangular pattern is mainly used in agriculture.

How do I know which of the two Marley sprinklers I should use?

Marley smart&green irrigation technology offers you the Hunter® PGJ geared pop-up sprinkler and the Hunter® spray sprinkler. Geared sprinklers are used in areas where sprinkler spacing of 8 x 8 m and larger is possible. Spray sprinklers with a fixed sector are used in correspondingly smaller areas. The sprinkler spacing between geared sprinklers should be between 8 and 12 meters. The sprinkler spacing between spray sprinklers should be between 3 and 5 meters. Maintaining these distances creates the necessary overlap of the sprinkler circuits to ensure even water distribution. Different sprinkler types should not be used within the same area.

What is the flow control on the solenoid valve for?

The flow regulation allows the pressure differential between the inlet and outlet of the water to be equalized. This allows the membrane to close properly when the valve is switched off and prevents the water from running unnecessarily into the next pipe.

HC Water Computer: What happens if there is a leak in my installed pipe or the water cannot flow properly?

The HC Water Computer 601i-E has a detection function for faulty water flow and informs you of this fault via the app.

HC Water Computer: How do I know if a laid cable is faulty?

The HC Water Computer 601i-E has a detection function. As soon as the current deviates, the app informs you of this fault.

X-Core Water Computer: Three programs are mentioned in the operating instructions. How do they work?

With the X-Core watering computer, you have the option of setting your own three programs in terms of start time, duration and days. It makes sense to define the irrigation zones according to the needs of the plants. You then set up the three programs, e.g. A for the lawn, B for the plant bed and C for your vegetable and herb corner. In this way, the plants are watered according to their needs. The corresponding program is then assigned to the solenoid valve via the computer programming.

How can I determine the water output of my pipe?

  1. Turn the tap or pump of your system on full.
  2. Measure the time until the bucket is filled with 10 liters.
  3. Use these values to determine the output of your system in l/min.
  4. Rule of thumb: The faster the bucket is filled, the more sprinklers can be operated simultaneously.
  5. Add up the water requirement of the planned sprinklers (see operating data for the respective items). If the added water requirement is equal to or less than the capacity of your system, you can operate all sprinklers simultaneously on one irrigation circuit.
  6. Otherwise, it is advisable to simply create several separate watering circuits and open or close them individually as required using stopcocks or automatically with solenoid valves.

Water runs out at the connections between the sprinkler connection joint and the sprinkler or the solenoid valve and the connection fitting. What can I do?

If you have wrapped Teflon tape around the thread, remove it and wrap new Teflon tape between 10 and 15 times around the thread. This should seal the connection.

What is the best way to plan my new garden irrigation system?

You can download a planning aid from our website.

What legal requirements do I need to observe?

Ask your local authorities whether a permit is required to install an irrigation system and what type of backflow protection is required in your area.

What is backflow protection and why is it so important?

The backflow protection ensures that no wastewater can flow back into the building from the sewer system in the event of a backflow. This protection is required by law and must also be taken into account when watering the garden.

Why are my watering zones not activated at the same time, even though the same start time is stored everywhere?

If all zones or solenoid valves were to be activated at the same time, the water pressure would drop significantly and could therefore lead to limited functioning of your system. For this reason, all segments are activated one after the other. The time offset depends on the respective watering duration.

House drainage

A floor drain was installed too deep during the shell construction phase. The height of the attachment belonging to the floor drain is not sufficient. Is it possible to install two extensions on top of each other to achieve the required height?

No, you can only fit one extension, it is not possible to raise it further. The floor drain must be placed higher, there is no other option.

The water stands on a drain and drains very slowly. If you remove the insert/lid, the water drains away immediately. What could be the cause?

The cause is a lack of ventilation in the relevant pipe section. The air can only escape with difficulty or not at all. If the local conditions allow it, you can create additional ventilation or drill a 2-3 mm hole in the middle of the cover as an immediate measure.

Does a backwater valve need to be maintained?

Yes, every backwater valve, whether single or double, should be checked at least once every six months. In case of dirt and residue: Remove cover, clean parts, check seals and replace damaged parts. We recommend a complete inspection at least every 12 months.

Can the HT pipe/ HT elbow be used for a central vacuum cleaner system?

Yes, but you should replace the seals. Seals for negative pressure can be obtained from the respective supplier of the central vacuum cleaner systems.

Up to what temperature can waste water pipes be loaded?

HT pipes are made of PP (polypropylene), this plastic is resistant to hot water up to 90°C. KG pipes are made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and are temperature-resistant up to 60°C.

Can HT pipes be bonded?

HT pipes are made of PP (polypropylene), this plastic cannot be permanently bonded.

For which wastewater are the backwater valves suitable?

The single and double backwater valves may only be installed in pipes with faecal-free wastewater.

What are the advantages of Marley pipe aerators?

Marley pipe aerators ensure pressure equalization in the event of negative pressure in the wastewater pipe system and thus prevent siphons/odour traps from being sucked empty. When depressurized, the pipe aerator is closed and sealed. No unpleasant odors! In a detached house, at least one ventilation pipe must be installed above the roof! The pipe aerator does not replace main ventilation above the roof!

Which waste water pipes can I lay where?

KG pipes (basic sewer pipe, color orange) are only approved for laying in the ground, the smallest diameter is DN 110. HT pipes (high temperature, color grey) are only approved for the waste water pipe in the house.

Fans (Premium)

What needs to be considered when installing fans with overrun?

It is not sufficient to use just a two-core cable, i.e. continuous current (L) and neutral conductor (N), to use the run-on function. There must be at least one switching current (L1), one continuous current (L) for the overrun and the neutral conductor (N).

Earthing (earth) is not required for the fans.

Always refer to the wiring diagram in the installation instructions supplied with each fan.

What is the conveying or travel distance for the fans?

The distance from the point at which the air is extracted to the point at which the air is discharged into the open air is referred to as the conveying or travel distance. All fans have an indication of the conveying or travel distance. This should not be exceeded under any circumstances, as otherwise the performance of the fans will be greatly reduced.

Can the P10 (MP 100 E) be equipped with an overrun?

Yes, the Marley overrun relay CS3-1B must be installed in the power supply.

Can the Premium fans (P10, P11 and P14) be connected to a timer?

Yes, the timer replaces the switch in this case. The P11 and P14 fans must be connected with switching current, continuous current and neutral conductor.

Can the Marley fans be operated with a dimmer to reduce the speed?

No, speed control is not provided for the fans.

Can the premium fans (P10, P11 and P14) also be switched with a push-button?

No, a switch must be fitted, otherwise the electronics will not work properly.

How can I change the power levels on the P12 (MP 100 VFN)?

The "+" and "-" buttons must be pressed simultaneously for at least 3 seconds. The power level can then be changed by pressing the "+" or "-" button.

Does the P12 determine a reference value for the room humidity after it is switched on for the first time?

As soon as you start up the P12, it can run for up to half an hour, during which time the reference value for the humidity is determined. It is therefore also important that you wait until the fan switches off and only then set the speed!

How can the reference value determined for room humidity be reset on the P12?

To reset the P12, you must disconnect it from the power supply for approx. 45 minutes.

The P11 fan (MP 100 S) runs continuously and cannot be switched off. Is this normal?

Yes, the P11 fan is a continuous runner that runs 24 hours a day without interruption. As a result, it provides basic ventilation in accordance with DIN, regardless of the user, and delivers 10 m³/h of air at the lowest level with a power consumption of only approx. 1.1 watts.

Although I have connected all three cables (blue, black and green/yellow), the overrun does not run. Is the appliance defective?

No, the device is not defective, apart from the colors of the cables, you need at least a 4-core cable. The continuous current is connected to terminal L, the switching current to terminal L1 (or SWL/TS/T) and the neutral conductor to terminal N. Earth is not required. Earth is not required.

Can the speed of the fans be reduced?

We do not recommend speed control, as the performance of the fans is greatly reduced.

Can the diameter of a fan exhaust air duct be reduced, e.g. from DN 100 to DN 75?

This is not recommended, as the pipe resistance increases considerably. The exhaust air duct should always have the same diameter as the fan.

Can I also install the device outdoors?

No. Marley fans are designed for indoor use only.

What is the maximum temperature of the exhaust air?

The maximum temperature for the fans is 40°C. The fans are designed for living rooms and must not be installed in ovens or sauna cabins.

What is the minimum number of cores the cables must have? How are the fans connected?

Each fan is supplied with a connection diagram, which also specifies the cable cross-section and the number of cables. For a simple fan with switch and without overrun, at least two connection cables (continuous current L and neutral conductor N) must be used. For a fan with switch and overrun, at least three connection cables (switching current L1, continuous current L and neutral conductor N) must be used.

Earthing is not required for the fans.

Please note: The connection must be carried out by a specialist.

What humidity should the P14 be set to?

Please use this table as a guide or set the humidity threshold value of the P14 to the level that suits you best and your living situation.

Yes, the timer replaces the switch in this case.

Can the Marley fans be operated with a dimmer to reduce the speed?

No, speed control is not provided for the fans. Only with the P11 and P14 can the speed be set on the fan. The design of a dimmer is not suitable for speed regulation.

Can the Classic fans (C11, C12, C21 and C31) also be switched with a push-button?

No, a switch must be fitted, otherwise the electronics will not work properly.

Can the Classic fans (C11, C21 and C31) also be operated without overrun?

Yes, all you need is a switching current and a neutral conductor and the small red switch on the circuit board must be set to "off".

Where is the non-return flap on the Classic fans (C11, C12, C21 and C31)?

The fans have a transparent sealing foil on the back, which is comparable to the function of a non-return flap.

What do the terminal designations ACL, T and ACN mean for the Classic fans (C11, C12, C21 and C31)?

ACL = continuous current, T = switching current and ACN = neutral conductor. The corresponding current must be present at all terminals if the fan is operated with switch and overrun.

How does the C11 (MC 100 VN) switch over to overrun?

The small red switch on the circuit board must be set to "on". Furthermore, the fan must be supplied with continuous current, switching current and neutral conductor.
